Summer Programs

Summer Feeding Programs

During the summer months some children have food insecurities because they have limited or uncertain access to enough food. When children are hungry, truly hungry, they are at risk of suffering consequences far more severe and long term than the “growling stomachs” and food cravings most of us have known. The harmful effects may come in various forms that are physical, emotional, and developmental. Lack of nutrition during the summer months may set up a cycle for poor performance once school begins again.

In communities across Texas, children are hungry, scarred and discouraged because poverty has taken hold of their lives, hearts, and dreams. Here at SOS Kidz, we provide programs and meals to fill that nutritional gap and give the
youth back their dreams in an effort to make these young people well-rounded individuals.

In the summer months, SOS Kidz provides breakfast and lunch. Our services are offer to children who live in areas where fifty percent or more of the children receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs.
